A New Option for Sunday Bulletin
For the next few weeks, we will be trying an experiment. We’ll offer the Sunday worship bulletin in two formats – printed paper copy and digital download for your smartphone or tablet.

As we have for many years, St. Michael’s is collecting new backpacks, school supplies and gift cards for local children in the foster-care system. Please bring items to the church on Sunday, July 23, through Sunday, August 20.

The Portland Pride Parade is almost here! It is being held this coming Sunday, July 16, and St. Michael’s is pulling out all the stops. We have two brand-new banners to display! They are beautiful and will show the world that St. Michael’s cares about and celebrates all people everywhere. We hope that lots of you will come out to walk with us.

On July 4-8, four youth from St. Michael & All Angels attended Episcopal Youth Event (EYE) in Baltimore with others from around the Episcopal Church in Western Oregon and across The Episcopal Church. Rising high school senior Lucy offers this reflection from her experience at #EYE23.

At the 2022 General Convention, Episcopal Migration Ministries created the Rainbow Initiative to spotlight forced migration of LGBTQ+ people, the issues they face and why we as people of faith should care. St. Michael’s Vestry signed on in March 2023 as one of approximately 20 Rainbow Initiative Congregations committed to highlighting this intersectional social-justice issue especially during Pride month in June. As a faith community, we felt called to do so because St. Michael’s is both a welcoming congregation to the LGBTQ+ community and an Immigrant Welcoming Congregation.

As a teacher for 40 years, my life’s rhythm has been that of the school year. The end of any school year was always bittersweet. My students and I had worked hard for months. As I said goodbye and wished them a happy, safe summer, I prayed I had given my students all they needed. I hoped they retained the skills and concepts we had worked so hard to achieve.

Our summer Sunday schedule begins on June 18. Our morning services will be at 7:30 and 10:00 am, and the 1:00 pm service in Spanish will continue as usual. If there are forums, as there is on June 18, those will happen at 11:15 am. The 10:00 am service will continue to be livestreamed as usual.

Broadway Night 2023 – The full – though edited for time – version. Also available on YouTube and Facebook.

A social-justice forum is being offered on Sunday, June 18, from 11:10-11:55 in the Nativity Hall. This forum is sponsored by the St. Michael’s Immigrant Welcoming Congregation (IWC) and Outreach & Justice teams.

Mark your calendars for two special youth-group events in June! First, on Sunday, June 4, the St. Michael’s Youth Group will meet for an end-of-year party with our new rector Scott Painter.
