We sang a beloved hymn on Sunday in the 9:00 service, but we didn’t sing my favorite verse. There is no talk of raising Ebenezers in the 1982 hymnal version of “Come, thou fount of every blessing,” even though the missing verse is part of original lyrics composed in the 1750’s.

I am very excited to share that St. MIchael & All Angels is hiring! We are prayerfully looking for a Missioner for Youth (20 hours/wk), to walk with youth, families and leaders in reinvigorating and growing our Episcopal Youth Community at St. Michael’s.

Almost as soon as they started worshiping in the little brown church at the NW corner of NE 38th & Broadway, the leaders of St Michael’s realized that they would soon need a larger worship space. That little church only held 100 people (according to Iona Gardiner, one of the founders of the congregation).

On Sunday, September 24, as we celebrate the Feast of St. Michael & All Angels, we will formally dedicate the new addition to the Columbarium on this, the 100th anniversary of the nave. The vestry approved the Columbarium expansion in March of 2022, and a team was formed soon thereafter.

Kick-off Sunday was wonderful! It was so great to begin the fall season with you, to revel in the exquisite music of our St. Michael Singers, and to move together into new rhythms of worship, fellowship and service that come with the changing season.
Now, buckle up. The next few weeks are going to be packed with good stuff! We will celebrate important milestones to honor the parish’s rich history and look ahead to God’s future for us.

At St. Michael & All Angels, we are joining with Christians around the world to celebrate the Season of Creation. “Let Justice and Peace Flow” is the theme for this year’s ecumenical celebration, which is being held this year at St. Michael’s from September 10 through October 11.

September 15 is the first day of National Hispanic Heritage Month. We reflect on the histories, and we celebrate the cultures and peoples whose ancestries originated in parts of the world currently known as Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, South America and Spain. Join us on Sunday, September 17, at 2:30 pm for a Tardeada (an afternoon festival) in the Nativity and Parish Halls. All are invited to enjoy a variety of Hispanic foods, live music and a raffle with nine possible prizes.
