Now Hiring: Missioner for Youth

I am very excited to share that St. Michael & All Angels is hiring!  We are prayerfully looking for a Missioner for Youth (20 hours/wk), to walk with youth, families and leaders in reinvigorating and growing our Episcopal Youth Community at St. Michael’s.  You can read about the opening here: https://ecwo.org/missioner-for-youth-st-michael-all-angels-portland/

The title of “Missioner” is preferable to “Minister” because of our baptismal covenant and catechism that states “lift up all members – lay and ordained – to minister together as church” (Book of Common Prayer, p. 855).  A Missioner is one who is charged with engagement, outreach, gathering and support of all those who are ministers.

From my earliest interactions with the people of St. Michael’s, the parish community has clearly committed to robust ministry connecting, supporting, and empowering the Youth of the parish. Our commitments extend to all ages, of course.  And in this case, we are looking to support those in the pivotal years of Middle School and High School.  During the first vestry meeting I attended in May, the priority of ministry to our youth was strongly communicated; and I committed to working with youth leaders and families to renew our commitment this ministry and find creative ways to fund the position.

For at least the next year this position will be funded with monies that were given in 2016 for a Youth mission trip that never happened.  With the blessing of those who originally made that gift, the vestry redesignated that money to support this position.

Please join together in prayer that God will send us the right person to be Missioner for Youth at St. Michael & All Angels. If you know someone who may be qualified, by all means encourage them to contact me!
