Thank you to our wonderful soloists this summer! We got to enjoy small ensembles singing a few anthems (with minimal rehearsal!, vocal duets, organ+piano duets, classic flute duets, the Misa Coro and instrumentalists at our parish picnic; a first sacred music solo, and a young woman astound us on clarinet this past Sunday. What a glorious array of musical delights to fill the time until our choirs are back for the season on Sunday, September 11.
We’re pleased to offer the rescheduled Recovery Sunday service on Sunday, September 11, at 10:00 am. Please join the St. Michael’s Recovery Ministry’s offering to our community as we hear parishioner Margaret preach the sermon, sharing with our community her journey and experience.
The Search Committee will be gathering applications through the application deadline of Oct. 8. Another application was received this week.
There is a well-known verse in the Epistle reading this coming Sunday: “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.” [Heb. 13:2] I put it up there with the motto many of us learned at St Michael’s: “Never resist a generous impulse.”
The Profile has been posted, and the search for our new rector is underway. As of today, one application has been received. As applications come in, they go through the following process as established by the Search Committee. Initially, the applications will be received by the Rev. Chris Craun in her role as the Transition Ministry Manager for the Diocese. She will verify that the applicant is in good standing with either the Episcopal Church or the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELCA). She will then send the application to the Search Committee at St. Michael’s where it will be reviewed by all the committee members.
Meet Organist Hannah Brewer and choir member (and retired organ builder) Cliff Fairley on Sunday, August 28, in church right after the 10 o’clock service to learn more about St. Michael’s organ and what it means to “Pull out all the Stops!”
St. Michael’s Reckoning with Racism team will be commissioned as an ongoing ministry on October 23, 2022. The team is planning a liturgy for that day, coupled with a forum in between the 9:00 and 11:00 am services.
On Sunday, July 31, the St. Michael & All Angels Parish Profile was formally handed over to the Search Committee. One of the committee’s first duties will be to formulate the questions they will use to conduct interviews of the applicants. A subcommittee has been set up to do this.
A huge thank-you to everyone who contributed to our backpack project for local children and youth in foster care, and to all those who helped pack the backpacks last Sunday after church.
