Work has begun on the Columbarium Expansion Project. A parishioner-led team has been working on this project since April. The St. Michael’s Columbarium contains niches for the cremated remains of St. Michael’s parishioners and/or their family members who have died, and also for those who wish to reserve a spot for themselves or loved ones in the future.
Our Annual Meeting is coming up next Sunday, January 29, at 12:15 pm in the Nave (following the 11:00 am service). We hope many of you plan to attend! The meeting will be livestreamed and you’ll be able to vote online, but it’s wonderful to attend in person for this communal event if possible.
This Sunday for our season of Epiphany the choir will sing Randall Thompson’s Choose Something Like a Star, based on a poem by Robert Frost. Also plan on coming to Choral Evensong for the feast of Candlemas on Wednesday, February 1st at 7 PM

It’s time to join the St. Michael’s Creation Care Team. We need a group of concerned people who are willing to work toward achieving the goal of carbon neutrality that is needed to save our planet. The mission of the Creation Care Team will be two-fold. On one hand, the team will look at ways we can improve the carbon footprint of our facility. On the other, the team will provide information to help members of our community improve the climate resilience of their own homes. Working together, we can make a difference in the effort to save God’s creation.
In a series of Sunday history forums, continuing on Sunday, January 15, at 10:15 am in the Nativity Hall, we are exploring the roots of the attributes that make this such a special place. These forums will be in-person and also available to watch on Zoom. Check your Thursday eblast for the link.
After the first sunrise of 2023, I intentionally took my first steps into the New Year along the Columbia River. The outline of the I-5 Bridge emerged through the morning fog and was reflected in the river below. It became a beautiful metaphor for this time of transition between the year just ended and this new one just beginning. The time between what has been known and familiar and what is yet unknown in this new year. A liminal space, an in-between-time, a sacred space inviting a pause and reflection.

This Sunday we observe MLK Day through a couple of musical choices at our morning choral services. Our offertory choir anthem is a soulful spiritual arrangement of City Called Heaven by African-American composer and conductor Josephine Poelinitz
