The Rev. SuEllen Pommier will join us as Curate in January, 2024. Bishop Akiyama will appoint SuEllen to a six-month placement as Curate at St. Michael’s next year. A curate is a newly-ordained or soon-to-be-ordained priest who serves a first call in an established parish to work with a mentoring priest. A curacy placement is meant to be mutually beneficial, in that our parish will receive some much-needed clergy support and SuEllen will be in safe and healthy context to learn and grow into her new ministry as a priest.

The choir is split for Advent III on Sunday, December 17. At 9:00 am, the tenors and basses will be featured, singing a beloved arrangement of the 13th century plainsong tune “Of the Father’s love begotten.” At 11:00 am, the sopranos and altos will sing a lively Magnificat by David Hogan.

You’re invited to a special Misa on Monday, December 11, at 8:00 pm to celebrate Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. A convivio feast will begin the celebration at 8:00, followed by the service at about 9:45 pm. The service will be in Spanish, but all are welcome to attend.

Coming up this month we have an excerpt from Handel’s beloved Messiah on Sunday, December 10; an award-winning anthem by the son of long-time St. Michael’s Singer Leslie Tuomi (and former Director of Music Scott Tuomi) on Sunday, December 24

All are invited to St. Michael’s at 7:00 pm on Sunday, December 3, for Advent Lessons & Carols. This service is based on the “O” Antiphons (the seven verses of “O come, O come, Emmanuel”). We’ll explore Advent themes through scripture and poetry readings, choral anthems, and congregational hymns.

This week, Serena Williams (yes – the retired tennis star, super athlete, entrepreneur, cultural icon, and mother of two) posted on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter. “I am not ok today. And that’s ok to not be ok. No one is ok every single day. If you are not ok today I’m with you. There’s always tomorrow. Love you.” It went viral.
