Building on the success of last year’s bilingual reading group, which met throughout Lent, the group leadership has chosen another book to read together this year, “Holy Moments: A Handbook for the Rest of your Life,” by Matthew Kelly.
Members of the Advocacy Action Committee will be in the Gallery this Sunday, January 28, at 10:15 am with letters to the heads of Citibank and Bank of America. The letters are in protest of both banks continuing financial support of fossil fuel expansion. Please note that this activity was originally scheduled for Jan. 14 but delayed due to weather challenges.
In light of the potential for a variety of precipitation through this weekend, including the likelihood of snow and very low temperatures on Saturday, January 13, please keep an eye on your email or this space. In the event of cancelled services, that information will be sent out in an eblast (and on this Home Page) as soon as a decision is made.
Looking ahead, the St. Michael’s Youth Group will gather again on Sunday, January 21, at 5:00 pm. In addition, on February 3-4, 2024, St. Michael’s youth are invited along with other diocesan youth for another Hope & Fire youth event.
On Sunday, January 7, the St. Michael’s Vestry and Team L.I.F.E. invite you to a thank-you gathering for our 2024 Commitment Campaign. Please come to the Parish Hall at 10:15 or so and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and a piece of pie. Then on the following two Sundays, join us for two important “business” forums covering the St. Michael’s budget and the upcoming elections for vestry and convention delegates.
It’s that time of the year again! The Outreach & Justice Council has set up the Advent Giving Tree in the Gallery, with tags that can be used to buy items needed for some worthy organizations. Please take a look at the information provided on the bulletin board behind the tree and pick one or two tags this Christmas season.
November is National Native American Heritage Month. You can access a bounty of fascinating Native American information, resources, exhibits, collections and more at nativeamericanheritagemonth.gov. We strongly commend it to you. For example, after just a few moments of searching the site, my eye caught the name Sarah Winnemucca in the “Today in History” links.
The St. Michael’s Vestry is beginning to plan for elections at the Annual Meeting, which will take place on January 28, 2024. We will be voting for four new members of the vestry as well as convention delegates. Please prayerfully consider if you have the time and interest in serving in one of these vitally important positions.
All are welcome for this annual event welcoming the Advent season on Sunday, November 26, at 10:00 am in the Nativity Hall. There will be seasonal crafts galore as well as the makings for a beautiful Advent wreath.
THANK YOU to all of you who have turned in your pledges, either during the services on our Ingathering Sunday last week or previously in the mail, collection basket or online. And if you’re wondering… yes, we’ll gladly continue to accept your pledges for the foreseeable future! We have a ways to go before we can fully fund our staff and ministries for 2024.
