Music for the Feast of Pentecost, May 28

This colorful Sunday of Pentecost is the final Sunday of our choir season. The St. Michael’s Singers and Choristers will join forces at the 9:00 am service with Keith Hampton’s True Light, loosely based on the traditional spiritual This little light of mine, as well as the classic anthem Draw us in the spirit’s tether at communion.

Youth Events in June

Mark your calendars for two special youth-group events in June! First, on Sunday, June 4, the St. Michael’s Youth Group will meet for an end-of-year party with our new rector Scott Painter. The time for this event is from 5:00 to 7:00 pm in the Parish Hall, and it will include dinner, games and prizes.

The Day of Pentecost

On Sunday, May 28, we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost. At St. Michael’s, that means that we gather in the Nave under beautiful, colorful hangings and descending doves. We listen to traditional Pentecost readings and dress in red, orange and yellow clothing.

Music for Sunday, May 21

This coming Sunday after the Ascension, we have a grand Anglican choral anthem with organ based on an excerpt from the Song of Solomon by English composer Patrick Hadley (1899-1973), including the text “Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.”

Broadway Night

Broadway Night is back! Tickets will be on sale this Sunday and next (May 21 and 28) after both the 9:00 and 11:00 am services. Support the St. Michael’s Music Program in their annual fundraiser AND be thoroughly entertained in the process! This year, the dates are coming right up: Friday and Saturday, June 2 and 3.

Flute & Organ Recital

All are invited to a recital on Saturday, May 20, at 4:00 pm in the Nave. Choir Director Brian Fairbanks will be playing a recital of music for flute and organ by American composers. He will be joined by his good friend John Stuntebeck, the associate organist at St. Mark’s Cathedral in Seattle. Brian will be playing “Bati l’gani,”by Meira Warshauer. It is inspired by another text from the “Song of Songs.”
