This Sunday, May 23, we celebrate the moveable feast of Pentecost, which is celebrated on the 50th day (the seventh Sunday) from Easter Sunday. It commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem, as described in Acts 2:1-31.
Our wonderful Choristers sang the virtual choir anthem last Sunday to officially wrap up the 2020-2021 choir season. Watch their “Alleluia Canon” again, with Brian Fairbanks on flute, on our YouTube channel, STMAA Connection.
Hey, kids! We are back – live and in-person for the 9 & 11 o’clock liturgies beginning on Pentecost, May 23. Bring your family to church and join Leslie Sackett for stories, crafts and games all summer long. Children’s Liturgy will meet in the Nativity or Parish Hall with windows open and lots of good air circulation.
Music for last Sunday, the Sunday after the Ascension, included organ repertoire from two of the most significant, beloved—and contrasting—composers for organ: Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) and Olivier Messiaen (1908-1992).
Since September 2020, a cohort of St. Michael’s parishioners have been participating in a course called “Reckoning with Racism.” This was organized by Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon and has been a deep dive into the historical racism in the state of Oregon.
The St. Michael’s Youth Group is meeting this coming Sunday, May 16, at Normandale Park on NE Halsey from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. We will offer a prepackaged light snack, and masks and social distancing will be required. We will meet rain or shine, so please dress accordingly – and wear shoes appropriate for playing kickball!
Meet in the courtyard for fun in the sun! Stop by St. Michael’s at 11:00 am on Sunday, May 16, for Holy Communion and stay for fun and fellowship in the church courtyard. Popsicles & bubbles and friends, hooray!
