Our services on Ash Wednesday, March 5, are at 12:00 noon, which will be a spoken service with Holy Eucharist and imposition of ashes; and an evening service at 7:00 pm. This service will be bilingual, with music led by the St. Michael’s Singers and communion and imposition of ashes offered.
The Bilingual Lenten Book Group is starting soon It’s a great opportunity for members from the English- and Spanish-speaking congregations to get to know each other, tell our stories and reflect on our common spirituality.
Our weekly Lenten Forum series, facilitated by Seminarian Matt Haines, continues on Sunday, March 30, from 10:15 to 11:00 am in the Nativity Hall. Matt is leading an exploration of Episcopal saints from twentieth-century America whose faith caused them to radically live out the Baptismal Covenant. This Sunday’s saint is civil rights martyr Jonathan Myrick Daniels, a white seminarian.
Now we need more than ever to keep celebrating joy, bravery, and expression in all its forms. Our choir members are voluntarily putting themselves out there for our Broadway Night fundraiser: singing, dancing, memorizing lyrics and choreography, preparing a welcoming, beautified space with silent auction items, wine and dessert.
This week, I’m in Kansas City at the Episcopal Parish Network conference, reconnecting with colleagues and learning about ministry with marginalized communities, adaptive leadership, and capital fundraising. Presiding Bishop Sean Rowe is here, sharing his vision for transformation in The Episcopal Church. And, as always, the backdrop to our conversations is the immense upheaval and uncertainty in our country and beyond.

To wrap up Black History Month, Sunday’s organ prelude will be by Betty Jackson King (1928-1994), who taught at Dillard University in New Orleans and in New Jersey public schools. King was part of Chicago’s Black Renaissance and was especially known for her vocal works, but this prelude was from her only organ suite.
The profound statement from Ephesians 2:19-22 emphasizes the unity and inclusion within the Christian community, transcending ethnic, cultural, and social boundaries. It reflects the transformative power of the Gospel, which brings people together in the body of Christ.
