Have you noticed that many of our hymn choices over the past month have reflected the Season of Creation? To close out this unofficial church season on Sunday, join us in singing the hymns For the fruit of all creation, Touch the earth lightly, and Mothering God, you gave me birth. The St. Michael’s Singers will also offer a joyous selection from Franz Joseph Haydn’s oratorio The Creation. Other Classical era (c. 1750-1820) works to be featured include Mozart’s famous motet Ave verum corpus, as well as organ voluntaries by Italian composer Anna Bon (c. 1738-after 1769) and Austrian composer Maria Theresia von Paradis (1759-1824).
Thank you to all who helped to make our St. Michael’s Evensong such a brilliant success last Friday! Save the date for our next Choral Evensong on Sunday, November 5 at 5pm for the Feast of All Souls as we make space to remember our departed loved ones. Music highlights will include Herbert Howells’ Collegium Regale Evening Canticles, an excerpt from William Byrd’s Mass for Four Voices, and Eleanor Daley’s poignant In Remembrance from her Requiem.
