Music for July 17

Did you know that the Rev. Sherman Hesselgrave is an accomplished keyboardist? In fact, he has served as Director of Music at various times in other parishes, including playing the organ and piano. To highlight this hidden skill, we welcome him as not only presider on Sunday, but as pianist at the 10 am service as we feature two piano/organ duets between Sherman and St. Michael’s organist Hannah Brewer. The prelude will be an arrangement for organ and piano of Gabriel Fauré’s Sicilienne, which was originally an orchestral piece and is also often performed as a cello and piano duet. Sunday morning’s postlude will be another work arranged for piano and organ “in [the] classic style.” Don’t miss this unusual pairing of keyboards as we show off the colors and textures of each instrument.
