Music for Advent 4 – December 18

You are warmly invited to our Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols this Sunday, December 18 at 7pm. The St. Michael’s Singers and Choristers are excited to share several Advent/Christmas anthems and carols they’ve been learning over the past month or two, just for this occasion. Our young Choristers have been rehearsing on Sundays between the 9am and 11am services and have prepared their own anthem, the traditional Jamaican carol “The Virgin Mary had a Baby Boy,” and will also sing the soprano solo that opens Harold Darke’s classic carol “In the Bleak Midwinter.” The St. Michael’s Singers, meanwhile, have Finnish, Ukrainian, English, and American carols or motets to share, in between scriptural selections and poems telling the story of Jesus’s birth. As a congregation, we’ll sing favorite hymns like “Of the Father’s love begotten,” “Once in royal David’s city,” and “Hark! the herald angels sing.” Please join us for a festive reception after the service as we celebrate our music program and this hopeful season of light. The service itself will be livestreamed just as on Sunday mornings.
