Music for the Juneteenth Holiday

The prelude and postlude for Sunday, June 20, are offered in celebration of the Juneteenth holiday. The prelude, which you can hear a creative arrangement of here, is by Florence Price (1887-1953), the first African-American woman to be recognized as a symphonic composer. She was a pianist, organist and teacher as well. Trained in the European tradition, her compositional style nevertheless reflects her Southern roots.

We have held three Land Story Gatherings and had great conversations. We are discovering that it is both overwhelming and inspiring to hear the Land Story of St. Michael’s – overwhelming with the recognition and acknowledgment of how we came to be on this land, and inspiring to envision a future world that seeks restitution and compassionate care.

Hey, kids! We are back – live and in-person for the 9 & 11 o’clock liturgies beginning on Pentecost, May 23. Bring your family to church and join Leslie Sackett for stories, crafts and games all summer long. Reckoning with Racism

Since September 2020, a cohort of St. Michael’s parishioners have been participating in a course called “Reckoning with Racism.” This was organized by Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon and has been a deep dive into the historical racism in the state of Oregon.

Youth Group Gathering

The St. Michael’s Youth Group is meeting this coming Sunday, May 16, at Normandale Park on NE Halsey from 5:00 to 6:30 pm. We will offer a prepackaged light snack, and masks and social distancing will be required. We will meet rain or shine, so please dress accordingly – and wear shoes appropriate for playing kickball!
