THANK YOU to all of you who have turned in your pledges, either during the services on our Ingathering Sunday last week or previously in the mail, collection basket or online. And if you’re wondering… yes, we’ll gladly continue to accept your pledges for the foreseeable future! We have a ways to go before we can fully fund our staff and ministries for 2024.

Lessons & Carols is fast approaching! This annual, beloved event will be held early in the season on Sunday, December 3, at 7:00 pm this year. As sung two years ago, we will again structure the service around the seven “O” Antiphons, rather than the typical nine lessons. Dating back to the 6th century, these “O” Antiphons expand on the most famous paraphrase, the hymn “O come, O come, Emmanuel,” focusing on the Hebrew scriptures associated with the coming of Christ.

This Sunday, November 5, the St. Michael’s Youth Group will meet from 5:00 to 6:30 pm in the Nativity Hall for dinner, games and fellowship. Please give us a heads up if you’re coming so we have enough food.

“Rooted and Grounded in Love” is the theme of our 2024 Commitment Season. The season began on October 15, and each Sunday we’re hearing from vestry and Team L.I.F.E. members about why and how they pledge. This coming Sunday, November 5, we’ll hear from vestry member Beth Ilem at the 9:00 and 11:00 am services and the 1:00 pm service in Spanish.

On Sunday, November 5, we celebrate All Saints Sunday, a day to honor our deceased loved ones. The names of many of those who died since last All Saints are listed in the bulletins and will be read aloud during the services. Some of those who attend the 1:00 service set up the Altar de los Muertos in the church last Sunday, and there are photos on the altar of some of our loved ones. These photographs and remembrances represent the “great cloud of witnesses” which surround us.

Got kids? Family Worship returns on Saturday, October 21. Join the circle of friends and families in the Nativity Hall for music and worship followed by a potluck dinner. Come connect with other families and their young children as we sing, dance, pray and give thanks for God’s goodness in each other, in creation and in our community.

On Sunday, October 8, members of the Advocacy Action Committee will be in the Gallery between services with letters to Representatives Blumenauer and Bonamici asking them to support HR 3103, the Defending the Rights of Palestinian Children and Families Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act. This would prevent any U.S. funds from supporting the detention of children.

We are blessed to welcome a very special guest preacher on Sunday, October 8, at the 9:00 and 11:00 am services. Read more for Rector R. Scott Painter description of the Rev. Ryan Hawthorne.

Thursday, October 5, at 6:30 pm, we celebrate the long-awaited installation of the Rev. R. Scott Painter as our 8th Rector. All are invited and welcome! This will be an evening of great tradition and joy, with Bishop Diana presiding and preaching. Eucharist will be included in the service, which will be bilingual, and many clergy in the diocese will be in attendance as well as many of Scott+’s family and friends
