On the Third Sunday in Lent, we heard St Paul remind the Corinthian Christians, “So if you think you are standing, watch out that you do not fall.” This verse has been reverberating in my head this week, as we keep hearing of fully vaccinated and boosted friends testing positive for Covid. Hospitalizations and deaths are nowhere near what they were even months ago, but we are not out of the woods yet. So, be careful out there, and be patient. We’re going to be in this yo-yo-ey world for a while.
On Sunday, May 29, the St. Michael’s Reckoning with Racism (RwR) group (formed in 2020) and clergy invite you to join us in a liturgy to experience our baptismal covenant more deeply and better understand our responsibility as Episcopalians to see and dismantle the systems that perpetuate racism. We look forward to sharing this experience with you.

Over the last few weeks, I was blessed to visit my favorite retreat center (a Buddhist dhamma hall in Onalaska, Washington, at the foot of Mount St. Helens) to sit in silence for ten days of meditation. I’ve been known to joke—if asked for a strange fact about myself—that one of my quirks is that I am able to sit eerily still for intimidating amounts of time.
The Advocacy Action Committee will gather signatures on a pair of gun control petitions this Sunday, May 15, from 10:00 until 10:50 am in the Gallery. The petitions would place IP17 (safer owners and less lethal ammunition) and IP 18 (stops proliferation of assault weapons), on the November ballot.
A huge thank-you to everyone who attended one of the 14 Listening Sessions held by the Profile Committee. In all, 158 members of the St. Michael’s congregation contributed their ideas, suggestions, comments and questions regarding the search for our new rector. You told the Profile Committee what you value and how you see the future of the parish.
Our context for ministry is always changing. The challenges of today are not the challenges of even two years ago. How do we adapt?
