Blue Sky Grant Awarded to St. Michael’s

At St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, we were informed late last February that we are one of a dozen recipients of a 2020 Pacific Power Blue Sky renewable-energy award to help fund a new solar-array installation on the south-facing roof of our church.

Connecting Through Cards

As we navigate the tumultuous and uncertain times we are in, we are using a lot of technology to connect in virtual services and meetings. This is helping somewhat to keep us connected to the St. Michael’s community. A couple of us wonder if there might be interest in something a bit more old-fashioned, such as handwritten, hand-made greeting cards.

Small Groups Forming

We’re kicking off another four-week round of our small groups with Associate Rector James Joiner in July. These groups meet over Zoom for an hour each week and are a great opportunity for checking in with each other about the news and our lives as we reflect on the upcoming Sunday Gospel and pray together.

11th Bishop of Oregon Search & Transition

Episcopalians in the Diocese of Oregon are electing a new bishop on August 29. Once the election has taken place, the Bishop-elect will work for a few months with Bishop Michael Hanley to effect a smooth transition. Susie Silva-Strommer, St. Michael’s parishioner and member of the Transition Committee, has compiled a number of questions and answers about the process and shared ways in which you can be involved.

Advocacy Action News

The St. Michael’s Advocacy Action team is gearing up for a busy election year. A proposed initiative for the November 2020 ballot, Initiative Petition 57, would create an independent Oregon Citizens Redistricting Commission to draw state legislative and congressional districts in an impartial and fully transparent manner.

Financial Updates from the Treasurer

With all of the current uncertainty in the world, I want to pass along a positive update regarding the finances of St. Michael’s. At the end of April, we had collected over 35% of our annual pledges and 40% of our budgeted open offerings. That puts us ahead of schedule as we come to the historically slower summer months.
