Next Sunday, June 26, Transition Minister Julia Nielsen is hosting a follow-up forum at 11:30 for parishioners to have a chance to hear more about and weigh in on the State of the Parish document she developed a couple of weeks ago after months of conversation with individual and groups of parishioners.
School-age children are invited to attend Children’s Liturgy of the Word each Sunday – even in the summer! Children leave after the Opening Collect and return to the gathered community at the Peace. Children’s Liturgy meets on the lower level in front of the big mural where we share stories of God’s love in the world drawing on a variety of children’s literature.
The Profile Committee is entering the final weeks of its mission as it prepares to write the final draft, edit it, and design the final version for publication. Next the final version will be submitted to the Vestry for their approval, and then to the Diocese for their approval. After that it will be ready to launch.
In the meantime, here is a brief introduction to some of the folks who have been working so hard to bring this about. This is an accomplished, thoughtful, passionate group of people, and it’s interesting to learn more about their backgrounds and why they chose to serve on the Parish Profile Committee.
Beloved, what bubbles up in you when you read this?
‘Like a path through the forest, Sabbath creates a marker for ourselves so, if we are lost, we can find our way back to our center. ‘Remember the Sabbath’ means ‘Remember that everything you have received is a blessing. Remember to delight in your life, in the fruits of your labor. Remember to stop and offer thanks for the wonder of it.’
The Pride Parade is almost here! June 19 is the date, and we will be walking with Trinity Cathedral and other Episcopal churches. We are in the line-up at #48 and are massing on NW Everett, between NW Park and 8th Avenue. Look for the Trinity banner and plan to be there by 11:30 (or whenever you can, after church).
The survey of the congregation has been completed and is now in the hands of the Profile Committee. The committee received 164 survey responses which, according to Chairperson Barb Miller, is about the same number they received last time. When added to the 158 members of the congregation who attended Listening Sessions and others who wrote comments on the bulletin board, the Profile Committee has a good amount of information to inform their work.
Following this Sunday’s 10:00 am service, the Advocacy Action Committee will have letters for you to sign asking our local members of Congress to support the creation of a Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding School policies in the United States (H.R. 5444/S. 2907). This commission will be dedicated to addressing the legacy of violence and abuse perpetrated by boarding schools in this country, including some run by the Episcopal Church, that removed Indigenous children from their families and forced them to participate in the boarding school system.
Who doesn’t love to read books, especially in the summer? We’re holding a parish-wide book exchange on Sunday, June 12, after the 9:00 and 11:00 am services.
The Day of Pentecost, also called WhitSunday, is this coming Sunday, June 5. Pentecost is celebrated on the 50th day (the seventh Sunday) from Easter Sunday and commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ while they were in Jerusalem. I
