Music this Sunday

Choir season is upon us! The St. Michael’s Singers returns this week with two choral anthems at Sunday’s 9am and 11am services as well as fresh sets of service music for the Season of Creation. The choir will sing a movement from Russian Orthodox composer Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov’s Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom based on Psalm 103 (the psalm appointed for the day), as well as the famous Renaissance polyphonic motet Sicut cervus by Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594).

Upcoming musical highlights of the season include three Choral Evensongs at 5pm (September 27, November 22, and May 2 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral with the choirs of Trinity and Ascension); a Halloween Organ Spooktacular on October 31 at 7:30 p.m. with poetry and special guests; A Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols on December 20 at 5pm; our annual Broadway Night music ministry fundraiser on June 4 & 5, 2027; and much more! Stay tuned for more details, and get in touch with Hannah or Brian if you wish to join one of the choirs.
