Music to begin February

Sunday’s gospel states “You are the light of the world.” We celebrate this light through song with hymns such as Gather Us In (“Here in this place the new light is streaming”), I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light, and This Little Light of Mine. At 9am the St. Michael’s Singers will sing the choral anthem O nata lux de lumine (“O Light born of Light”) by Thomas Tallis, while at 11am the Saints & Singers Choir offer the traditional American folk tune Jesus, the Light of the World.

We have another musical event coming up at St. Michael’s on Saturday, February 11 at 3pm. Ping & Woof Opera presents the vocal recital “Songs for My Valentine” with husband and wife singers Jocelyn Claire Thomas (soprano) and Zachary Lenox (baritone), accompanied by Hannah Brewer on piano. They will sing vocal solos and duets by Roger Quilter, Georges Bizet, Franz Schubert, Cécile Chaminade, and more, with a little musical theatre sprinkled in as well. Donation based admission. Catch a preview on “Thursdays @ Three” on All Classical Portland 89.9 on February 9th or experience the recital again on Wednesday, February 15th at noon at The Old Church downtown. Celebrate love and music with us!
