On Saturday, December 21, at 5:00 pm, we will come together to celebrate The Longest Night Service. We will remember loved ones who have died and also reflect on the pain, loneliness and sadness we may feel that may keep us from joy and the fullness of life.

Our Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols is coming soon on Sunday, December 22, at 5:00 pm. Please join the St. Michael’s Singers and Choristers for hymns, carols, motets, biblical readings, and poems exploring the story of Christ’s birth.

During Advent Mondays, I’ve been Zooming with folks for a weekly discussion group reading the book “Following Jesus in a Culture of Fear” by Scott Bader-Saye.” I have found Bader-Saye’s insights about the power of fear in our lives to be thought-provoking and challenging.

St. Michael’s is excited to once again host the Red Doors Artisan Fair. The fair will be on Sunday, December 8, with shopping open from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm in the Nativity Hall. We have over 12 vendors committed to selling their creations, including crocheted gloves and Christmas decorations, honey, and jewelry.

The season of Advent is here, and with it our Advent Giving Tree. The tree is now up and ready for tags to be taken. The tree will remain up through December, and the gift items will be delivered in early January. This year, there are three ways to help those in need.

For the past 16 years, St. Michael’s Spanish-speaking community has hosted the celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe, commemorating the date in 1531 when the Virgin Mary appeared to Juan Diego, an indigenous Mexican who had recently converted to Christianity. To the present day, she remains a powerful symbol of Mexican identity and faith.

The offertory hymn for this Sunday, December 8, is an arrangement of a Swedish Advent tune (“Prepare the Way”) by Margareta Jalkeus (now Bengtson).
