A Note from the Music Director

Monday through Thursday of this week, St. Michael’s organist Hannah Brewer has been attending the American Guild of Organists West Regional Convention right here in Portland. She performed an all-Duruflé concert on Monday with the choir Cantores in Ecclesia at Holy Rosary Catholic Church to a standing ovation and has participated in workshops on unequal temperaments (keyboard tuning), movement and gesture for choral singers and conductors (with Rodney Eichenberger). She also attended a masterclass on the works of J.S. Bach as well as attended organ and choral concerts and services at venues including Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, First Presbyterian Church, St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Sunnyside Seventh-Day Adventist Church, First United Methodist Church and the Grotto. These concerts included the ensemble Cappella Romana and soloists such as Pamela Decker, Kimberly Marshall and more.

Professional development opportunities like this are an excellent way to learn from and be inspired by colleagues from around the region, to develop new skills and to gain fresh ideas for the next program year.
