St. Michael’s Singers
Our main adult choir, the St. Michael’s Singers, returns from their summer break on Wednesday, September 9 with the first choir rehearsal of the season from 7-9pm. They will sing at both 9am and 11am services on Sunday, September 13. Their choral leadership is an integral part of the worship experience every Sunday from September through May. The choir also leads special services throughout the year such as Lessons & Carols in Advent and several Choral Evensongs. They sing a wide variety of repertoire from medieval chant to gospel spirituals to Renaissance polyphony to high Anglican anthems and newly composed works in many languages, including Latin, Spanish, French, and German. If you are interested in joining this choir in the fall (or any time of the year), please reach out to Music Director & Organist Hannah Brewer and/or Choir Director Brian Fairbanks. Because of the fast pace and amount of repertoire learned each week, some choral experience is recommended, although not required, and there are NO AUDITIONS to join. Stay tuned next week to learn more about another of our choirs at St. Michael’s…
Saints & Singers
The Saints & Singers is another of our adult choirs. They are a great choir to join (or consider trying) if you don’t have a lot of experience OR time. Maybe you really enjoy singing and even have plenty of choral experience, but you don’t want a weekly commitment. Or maybe you don’t read music but want to dip your toes into singing in harmony with others. Or perhaps you prefer the intimacy of a smaller, more informal choir (about 12-16 singers). The Saints & Singers rehearses one Thursday evening per month and sings once or twice a month at the 11am service. Their repertoire includes accessible, easy-to-learn arrangements. The choir is supported by four professional staff singers, who also sing with the St. Michael’s Singers as section leaders.
Choristers
Do you know a young person who loves to sing or wants to learn to sing? The St. Michael’s Choristers is our youth training choir that is open to treble voices in grades three through twelve. Exceptions can be made for motivated youngsters outside this age range who are strong readers. The Choristers rehearse on Sundays during the school year right after the 11am service. They sing periodically with the adult choirs or on their own at Family Worship or other special occasions. No experience required, just a desire to learn! Please get in touch with Choir Director Brian Fairbanks or Music Director & Organist Hannah Brewer for more info.
