With Sunday’s gospel reading being the raising of Lazarus (and Jesus weeping), you’ll hear two arrangements of the 18th century tune “When Jesus Wept” at the 9am and 11am services. A canon composed by William Billings (1746-1800), the choir will sing an arrangement by Alice Parker and Robert Shaw during the offertory, while the organ postlude will be another arrangement of the same melody by David Schelat. The organ prelude, meanwhile, is a meditation on the Lenten liturgical chant “Attende Domine” by English composer Alison Willis (b. 1971).
