The bi-lingual Lenten book group returns this Lent with a special treat. We will be reading The Church Cracked Open by the Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers!

The book group is an amazing opportunity for English speakers and Spanish speakers to spend time and learn together, share stories and get to know each other. Participants report being profoundly moved by the stories they have heard and shared.

From the author’s website regarding the book:
“Sometimes it takes disruption and loss to break us open and turn us back to God. In this challenging, hopeful work, Stephanie Spellers explores the American story and the Episcopal story to learn how communities steeped in White supremacy and empire can re-center on Jesus and become Beloved Community.”

The book group will be held five Sunday afternoons starting Feb 22 for an hour in the Nativity Hall, and led by P. Toni.  Copies of the book will be available in English and Spanish for $5. (No one will be excluded because of the cost)  We will have a signup sheet at the welcome table, or you can email Gillian Butler at gibu7098@aol.com if you want to participate. Please let us know soon so we can make sure we have enough copies of the book. If you can’t make it to all the sessions, that is not a problem.

En la página web de la autora, se describe el libro de la siguiente manera:“ A veces, la disrupción y la pérdida son necesarias para abrirnos y volver a Dios. En esta obra desafiante y esperanzadora, Stephanie Spellers explora la historia estadounidense y la historia de la Iglesia Episcopal para comprender cómo las comunidades inmersas en la supremacía blanca y el imperialismo pueden volver a centrarse en Jesús y convertirse en una Comunidad Amada”.El grupo de lectura se reunirá durante cinco domingos por la tarde, a partir del 22 de febrero, de 2:30 a 3:30 p. m. en el Salón de la Natividad, y estará dirigido por el Padre Toni. La última reunión será el 22 de marzo.  Habrá ejemplares del libro disponibles en inglés y español por $5. (Nadie quedará excluido por el costo).  Habrá una hoja de inscripción en la mesa de bienvenida, o pueden enviar un correo electrónico a Padre Toni a padretonia@stmaa.org. Si desean participar. Por favor, avísennos pronto para asegurarnos de tener suficientes ejemplares del libro. Si no pueden asistir a todas las sesiones, no hay problema.
