Youth Group Fall News

Youth Group meetings & events: We are very excited to kick-off our 2019-2020 St. Michael’s Youth Group with new faces and enthusiasm. This is shaping up to be an exceptionally exciting year, with plans for a summer of 2020 Service Trip and a Confirm not Conform confirmation class.

Beginning Sunday, September 15, with a parent meeting and then our first regular Youth Group, we will meet most Sundays from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. During that time, we will strive to engage our youth with conversation, camaraderie and prayer. Games and snacks will probably be included as well! Throughout the year, there will also be events, activities and service opportunities, including an upcoming outing to a Sauvie Island corn maze, a Halloween party and cooking sessions. Most important, we want our youth to have a sense of belonging and a place in the church community.

Our Youth Group Leader Cohort continues this program year with John Lidstrom, Jennifer McBratney, Laura Nichols and Chris Craun+. To receive the Youth Group emails, including the full fall schedule, please click here.

Confirm not Conform (CnC): This 2019-2020 year, I will be leading our confirmation program for the youth. We will be using the curriculum Confirm not Conform (CnC), which asks each participant to engage with an open mind and heart as we learn about our faith, take action in the world and engage in community service. Each youth is paired with a mentor who expands the network of support and encouragement for the youth. As a community, we will listen to the questions and concerns that are raised by our youth, offer help when needed and keep the participants in our prayers.

If you are (or your child is) currently between the 8th and 12th grade, you are invited to be part of this exciting journey. Please come on Sunday, September 15, at 6:00 pm for information and our first session. The full calendar of the CnC will be available at that time or from the church office, but will generally include two meetings a month—one meeting between the Sunday morning services and one on Sunday evening—through April. Also included will be field trips to other faith communities, a service project and a retreat.
