| It’s busy season for our choirs! The St. Michael’s Singers are working hard to finesse TEN anthems/carols for Lessons & Carols on December 21. They are also honored to sing for The Rev. Dr. Caroline Litzenberger’s memorial service this Saturday morning. Caroline was a decades-long member of the choir, offering words of wisdom and a peek at the historical significance of certain anthems and traditions. It is by her request that the choir will sing Morten Lauridsen’s beautiful Christmas anthem O magnum mysterium at the offertory on Saturday. On Sunday morning for Advent III, meanwhile, the choir will sing an anthem in honor of the Virgin Mary. Roman Hurko’s take on the classic Orthodox prayer Bogoroditse Dyevo (“Rejoice, O Virgin Theotokos”), instead of being sung in regular Church Slovanic (similar to Russian), is set in Ukrainian to honor the composer’s heritage. |
