The St. Michael’s music program presents its final Choral Evensong of the season for the Feast of the Ascension on Thursday, May 9, at 7:00 pm. Music includes organ voluntaries by Olivier Messiaen and Dieterich Buxtehude, as well as C.V. Stanford’s Magnificat & Nunc dimittis in C and Gerald Finzi’s triumphant Ascension anthem God is Gone Up. All are welcome to this Ascension Day service lasting less than an hour, officiated by the Rev. SuEllen Pommier.
The final event of the choir season is our annual Broadway Night fundraiser on Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, complete with a silent auction and wine and dessert intermission. Tickets go on sale this Sunday after the 9:00 and 11:00 am services to benefit the music program, which covers our staff singer salaries, guest musicians, new music and anything else music-related that is not included in our annual budget. It’s the most entertaining event of the year, so please plan on joining us for some Broadway tunes!
This Sunday, our St. Michael’s Singers are featured at 9:00 am with celebrated local composer Judy Rose’s A Jubilant Day. At 11:00 am, the Saints & Singers Choir offers one of our newly acquired anthems, a two-part arrangement of the plainsong hymn tune Jesu dulcis memoria.
