To close out Black History Month, we’ll feature music by African-American composers at both the 9:00 am and 11:00 am services on Sunday, February 25. The organ prelude is a setting of Jesus, keep me near the cross by the Black organist and church musician Don Lee White (1926-2010), who worked mainly in the Los Angeles area during his long career, including teaching at California State University, Los Angeles, for 27 years. We’ll also sing classic hymns like Precious Lord, take my hand and Steal away to Jesus from our African American Hymnal supplement Lift Every Voice and Sing.
