The offertory hymn for this Sunday, December 8, is an arrangement of a Swedish Advent tune (Prepare the Way) by Margareta Jalkeus (now Bengtson). Though this version is in English, the choir is preparing another Swedish folk tune in the original language for Lessons & Carols and Christmas Eve called Jul, jul, strålande jul (Yule, yule, radiant yule).

Other choral anthems for Lessons & Carols will include works in Latin (Victoria’s O magnum mysterium), Russian/Church Slavonic (Rachmaninoff’s beloved Marian devotion Bogoroditse Devo), and English (by Eleanor Daley, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Moses Hogan, Peter Warlock, and others).
