The choir season has started, and we are excited about our upcoming musical offerings! Please join us on Friday, September 29 at 7pm for a choral Evensong for the Feast of St. Michael & All Angels, where we will also be celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Nave AND the 50th anniversary of our Balcom and Vaughan pipe organ. You can expect dramatic works for organ and choir from the era, using a liturgy from the 1892 Prayer Book that would have been around when the nave was built. Yes, we’re nerdy like that.
As another celebration of 100 years, on Sunday, September 24 at 4pm, Ensemble Boulanger (with Hannah Brewer and Emma Riggle) will present a program in the nave of songs, piano solos, and piano duets by turn-of-the-century women. From Paris to Chicago will offer selections by French and American composers Cécile Chaminade, Nadia & Lili Boulanger, Amy Beach, Florence Price, and Margaret Bonds, almost all of whom were alive and composing in 1923 when our nave was constructed.
Stop by our music booth at the ministry fair on Sunday after the 9am service to learn more about our choir program and to pick up a homemade chocolate chip cookie!
