Music for May 12

If you are interested in attending some non-church music related events at St. Michael’s, you’re in luck! This Friday, May 12 at 7pm, please join Hannah Brewer and Ensemble Boulanger in a voice and piano recital called The Circle of Pauline Viardot to learn more about this 19th century Spanish-French mezzo-soprano and composer and her artistic circle of friends. Composers and writers like Frédéric Chopin, George Sand, Gabriel Fauré, Ivan Turgenev, and Viardot’s sister Maria Malibran will be featured. Admission is donation-based, and light refreshments will be offered in the Parish Hall after the program. The salon-style recital will be repeated on May 13 at 4pm at Ascension Episcopal Parish in SW Portland.

Then, on Saturday, May 20, Brian Fairbanks will offer a flute recital in the nave at 4pm along with organist John Stuntebeck. They will perform music by American composers including Lynn Petersen, Dan Locklair, Philip Glass, and Brian himself. All are welcome!

Finally, Broadway Night is returning on June 2 & 3! Tickets will be sold on Sundays after the 9am and 11am services starting this weekend. Ticket prices for this music program fundraiser are $35 and include a dessert intermission and silent auction. The show will begin at 7:30pm in the sanctuary. Even our new rector Scott Painter will be performing, so you won’t want to miss it!
