Music for June 19

Musical choices for the week are inspired by Pride and Juneteenth. A summer pickup choir will sing the hymn “We walk in love” by Deanna Witkowski and Lemuel Colon from the Justice Choir Songbook, with a gospel-inspired piano accompaniment. One of the verses proclaims, “We cry for peace and rights for all people… We fight for those whose voices are silenced, resisting in faith until all are free.”

Our congregational hymns at 10am will all also be about justice, peace, and inclusion, such as “All are welcome in this place” and “Canticle of the turning,” the latter featuring the popular refrain: “My heart shall sing of the day you bring. Let the fires of your justice burn. Wipe away all tears, for the dawn draws near, and the world is about to turn.”
