Music for July 23

This Sunday at 10:00 am, baritone Josh English sings Bist du bei mir. This famous aria, often attributed to J.S. Bach, is originally from the opera Diomedes by Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel (1690-1749). In the 1720s or 1730s, a version for voice and continuo was copied into the notebook of Anna Magdalena Bach, Johann Sebastian’s second wife. It was intended to be performed privately or publicly within the family sphere as “Hausmusik.” Clearly, it has taken on a life of its own in the centuries since it was first composed.

On Sunday, July 30, violinist Chad Southwell will delight us with some Irish/Scottish fiddle tunes during the 10:00 am service. Following the service, we are excited to open up the Nativity Hall space for an informal music recital featuring parishioners of all ages! We invite you to prepare an instrumental piece to share during coffee hour. Please get in touch with Hannah or Leslie to get on the list!
