Music for February 6

As we mark the start of Black History Month, our choral anthems on Sunday will be arrangements of the traditional African American spiritual Children, go where I send thee. Sometimes associated with Christmas as it references the “little bitty baby… born in Bethlehem,” the text reminds us of Jesus sending out his disciples “two by two” to spread the good news.

At the 9:00 am service, members of the St. Michael’s Singers (including new bass soloist Dan Gibbs) will sing an arrangement of the song by André J. Thomas, a highly respected African American composer, conductor and author of Way Over in Beulah Lan’: Understanding and Performing the Negro Spiritual. At 11:00 am, members of the Saints & Singers Choir will sing a different arrangement of Children, go where I send thee by our very own choir director Brian Fairbanks.
