Music for February 13

As we continue highlighting African American musicians and composers during Black History Month, Sunday’s organ prelude will feature a piece by Betty Jackson King (1928-1994). A native of Chicago, King taught music in New Orleans and New Jersey and was a nationally known composer, lecturer and performing musician. The Nuptial Suite from which Sunday’s Meditation is taken was composed in 1969 and is her only work for organ. The quote King lived by was “Over my head, I hear music in the air. There must be a God somewhere.”
