Music for August 28

This coming Sunday, August 28, our St. Michael’s music program has several special treats for you to enjoy. Our 10am service will feature clarinetist Emily Geoffroy, who grew up attending and playing clarinet at St. Michael’s for many years. Now she is entering her final year at the University of Oregon, studying with Dr. Wonkak Kim. Emily just returned from studying abroad in Austria and Germany from April-August and hopes to return to Europe for a Masters degree. She will play the glorious second movement of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto at the offertory on Sunday, a piece that is as close to divine perfection as you will ever hear.

Also on Sunday, right after the 10am service, there will be a hands-on organ demo and exploration of the most powerful “King of instruments.” Retired organ builder Cliff Fairley and St. Michael’s organist Hannah Brewer will demonstrate the different sounds of the organ and its mechanisms, as well as allowing anyone interested to sit at the organ bench to give it a whirl. Also on hand will be a working kit organ for children to build and play together, so plan on sticking around for up to an hour after the service to delve into the fascinating world of the pipe organ!
