Music for Advent and beyond

This year for Advent, we sing many of our favorite seasonal hymns, like Comfort, comfort ye my people and Prepare the way, O Zion, at our traditional 9:00 am service, while at 11:00 am we may learn some newer or less familiar hymns to celebrate a diverse worship experience, such as All Earth is hopeful (Toda la tierra) this coming Sunday. At 9am on December 4, the St. Michael’s Singers will offer two anthems arranged by American composers, while the 11am service will feature the Saints & Singers Choir singing an arrangement of a Punjabi song based on Psalm 62.

The choral highlight of the season will be our Festival of Nine Lessons & Carols on Sunday, December 18 at 7:00 pm. Please plan on supporting (and enjoying!) our St. Michael’s Singers and Choristers as they prepare eight anthems and motets for the service. You’ll hear biblical and poetic passages telling the story of Jesus’ birth; we’ll sing classic carols and hymns of the season; and the choirs will offer beautiful music by Peter Warlock, Rosephanye Powell, Roman Hurko, David Willcocks, Harold Darke, and more!
