Music at the Bishop’s Visitation

The St. Michael’s Singers are preparing two special anthems for the bishop’s visit on Sunday. At 9:00 am, the sopranos and altos will lead the service under the guidance of Assistant Choir Director Kaeli Porter, offering an anthem that combines two camp meeting songs: Rise, Oh Fathers and No Time. Susan Brumfield’s arrangement is both inspiring and poignant and will have you humming the tunes long after church is over.

At 11:00 am, the tenors and basses of the choir will offer a newly acquired anthem composed only a few years ago by the Minneapolis-based composer and educator Kyle Pederson. In the composer’s own words, the timely anthem Can We Sing the Darkness to Light?, “invites the listener to imagine a world without weapons or war—where the human experience is defined not through continued judgement of others, but through the lens of mercy and compassion. It could be beautiful.”
