Ministry Description:
Eucharistic Visitors take Holy Communion to members of the community who are unable to attend Sunday worship due to illness, accident, hospitalization, infirmity, or other extenuating circumstances.
Position Requirements:
- Recommendation of the Rector
- Must be a committed member of St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church and faithful in Sunday attendance
- Personal piety centered around the Eucharist
- Support the program of the church
- Have a manner of life appropriate for this ministry
- Must be at ease with people in a variety of situations and a sensitivity to other person’s reality
- Comfortable with extemporaneous prayer
- Willing to undergo training in pastoral care and sacramental theology as appropriate for this ministry
- Willing to attend Diocesan SAFE Conduct training
- Willing to commit to continuing education, especially regarding pastoral and/or spiritual care and interpersonal relationships
Responsibilities:
- Communicate availability for service by the 15th day of the current month for the following month.
- Communicate ahead of time with person to receive Holy Communion or the caregiver.
- Pray for the person who is to receive Holy Communion.
- Return communion kit to the church as soon as possible after administering the sacrament.
- Notify Deacon Marla or the church if a schedule change is to be made
- Attend Eucharistic Visitor meetings as scheduled.
- Notify Deacon Marla or Father John if anything usual transpires during the visit that needs to be reported while being mindful of the confidential nature of this ministry.
