Hannah Brewer Returns

St. Michael’s Music Director & Organist Hannah Brewer is newly back from her parental leave and very grateful for the musical leadership of Brian Fairbanks and James Walker (and the choirs!) while she was away. A fabulous season of music making is ahead, with another choral evensong coming up on Friday, November 1, at 7:00 pm for the Feast of All Saints.

Nominations & Stewardship

Greetings from the Florida Panhandle!  Last night I was honored to be present and preach at the Celebration of New Ministry for a friend and his new congregations (Yes, plural, there are two of them!) in Panama City Beach.  It was a joyful reunion for several of us who studied together at the Seminary of the Southwest.  Now, I am looking forward to being back with you on Sunday.

It’s not too late to join one of our Choirs!

St. Michael’s is well-known throughout the diocese and around the city for offering amazing music to members and visitors alike. We offer not just one but four robust choirs. They all have a lot of fun singing together! To find out more about any of the English-language choirs, please contact our Music Director Hannah Brewer or Choir Director Brian Fairbanks.

Music for Feast of St. Francis, October 6

Today, James is playing music by Joséphine Boulay and Eugène Gigout. Ms. Boulay, blind since the age of three, studied organ and composition at the Paris Conservatoire. Today’s “Toccata” is Gigout’s best-known work, and for good reason! At 9:00, the St. Michael’s Singers will sing two anthems in honor of St. Francis Day, “The Blue Bird,” by C. V. Stanford; and Kevin Siegfried’s arrangement of the Shaker song, “Heavenly Display.”

Uncommon People in Common Prayer

We don’t often read directly from The Book of Common Prayer on Sundays at St. Michael’s. You probably see it every week, peeking over the pew racks in back of each row, right next to hymnals and miscellaneous information cards. However, except for those who gather at the 7:30 service, we worship together using wonderfully produced, edited and printed worship bulletins that preserve us from having to juggle hymnals and prayer books and allow us to include additional words and prayers from the wider church as we worship together.
