A note from Sherman

Dear Friends,

From the 6th to the 23rd of September 1922, the General Convention of the Episcopal Church met in Portland, Oregon. Daniel S. Tuttle, 86, who was the Bishop of Missouri, also served as the Presiding Bishop at the time, and took time out to lay the cornerstone of our current church building.

This Sunday, we will be observing our Patronal Festival of St Michael & All Angels, and Presiding Bishop Michael Curry has sent us a video greeting on the occasion of the centennial of that event. See it Sunday!

We resume the 9:00 and 11:00 services this week. I had hoped to have a guest preacher for the occasion, but the cosmos was uncooperative, so I will be preaching (“Dragons and Ladders”). There will be coffee hour after both services and the Vestry is providing food for a reception between the 9:00 and 11:00 services.

The Feast of St Francis is just around the corner and the Blessing of Animals will take place on October 2nd at 12 noon.

As Julia and I conclude the eighth month of interim service, I realized a couple days ago that I feel I have become a better person as a result of being a part of this community during this time of transition. I have a hunch I am not alone.

In gratitude,
Fr. Sherman
Interim Rector for Worship and Pastoral Care
