Music News

This Palm Sunday the music ministry has quite the array of offerings. At 9 am, the St. Michael’s Singers will provide two choral anthems reflecting on themes from the Passion reading, including Spanish composer Pablo Casals’ beloved “O vos omnes” with text from the Lamentations. At communion, a newer anthem by the British composer Joanna Forbes L’Estrange on the classic text “Drop, drop, slow tears” will be sung, as well as at the noon Good Friday service. At 11am on Palm Sunday, the Saints & Singers and Choristers will combine forces to sing Harry T. Burleigh’s arrangement of the African-American Spiritual “I know the Lord’s laid His hands on me.” The Choristers will participate again on Maundy Thursday with the St. Michael’s Singers in THREE choral anthem gems, including two featuring the traditional “Ubi caritas” text long associated with that liturgy. The rest of the Holy Week music will be highlighted next week, including the return of the Portland Brass Quintet on Easter Sunday!
