Position Title: Sunday Sexton/Facilities Assistant

Classification: Part-time, 8-12 hrs/wk

Overview:

St. Michael & All Angels is an urban parish in the heart of the Hollywood District of Northeast Portland. The parish community is diverse, with services in both English and Spanish. There is constant activity to monitor and support through the day on Sundays. Our neighborhood environment offers special opportunities for care and ministry, and a need for attentiveness to building access and safety.

The Sunday Sexton reports to the Rector and supports the parish community throughout each Sunday, with additional days/events on occasion. This person is often the first point of contact on Sundays, and must build relationships and offer courteous service to all who enter. The Sunday Sexton also assists with room setups, some technology support, and light clean-up at the end of the day.

The qualified candidate will be bilingual in English and Spanish, as they will offer consistent support to our entire multicultural and bilingual parish community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and Regulate Door Access
    • Staff the Welcome Desk and Entrance;
    • Unlock/Lock Doors according to policies;
    • Monitor for unfamiliar individuals or potential problems;
    • Communicate with Rector, Vestry Person of the Day, and others appointed to assist
  • Oversee Parking
    • Place and Retrieve Parking Signs for contract lots;
    • Place and Retrieve temporary ramps;
    • Retrieve handicap signs from curb;
  • Set up/clean up for Classes, Receptions, Coffee Hour, and other special events
    • Set up tables and chairs for Coffee Hour, Forums and other events, as directed by Rector or ministry leaders;
    • Assist with clean-up for accidents and at the end of the day;
  • Other Duties as Assigned
    • Provide support to Rector and ministry leaders in a dynamic environment;
    • Assist with special situations as needed;
    • Assist with Funerals and Special Events during the week and Saturdays, as available.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to lift 80 lbs;
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English required;
  • Clear Background Check and Safe Church training required;
  • Build Relationships with the members of the parish community;

Schedule and Compensation:

  • Sundays, 7:30 am – 3:30 pm regular hours. Extended times occasionally necessary; Additional days for funerals and special events as available;
  • Vacation, Sick time, and parental leave according to St. Michael’s 2024 Leave Policy;
  • Unemployment insurance, Social Security, and Workers’ Compensation provided through Diocese (section 6.4 Policies and Procedures);
  • This position is not eligible for employer-provided health benefits;
