A Note from instructor Joy Fithian (CYT-200):

“Although yoga has existed for thousands of years, modern western yoga primarily evolved from a counter-colonial revival of Indian culture less than 200 years ago. With a strong focus on postures and the linking of breath with movement, modern Hatha Yoga is a physical practice that bears spiritual fruit, while also offering abundant benefits to the mind and body. Yoga today is often treated as a luxury commodity, so it is my intention to help “retrieve” this tradition from the fitness studio and bring it a little closer to its roots as a spiritual discipline. Among its benefits, yoga can help practitioners to cultivate a sense of presence and inner peace that enriches their lives off the mat. In this community class, we will be exploring movement, stillness, and mindful breath as pathways to connect with ourselves, each other, and the divine. “
