Please stop by the Advocacy Action table in the Gallery between the 9:00 and 11:00 am services on Sunday, October 13, to sign a letter to Representatives Blumenauer and Bonamici, asking them to support the Save Oak Flat from Foreign Mining Act.
For generations, native peoples have gathered at Oak Flat, Arizona, to harvest acorns and plants for ceremonial and medicinal purposes. This land is an integral part of Apache cultural identity as it is a central venue for worship, prayer and traditional ceremonies.
But the U.S. government has agreed to transfer the land to a mining company, an action that would be both “a grave human rights violation and an environmental catastrophe,” according to tribal leader Terry Rambler. The Save Oak Flat Act would permanently protect this sacred land.
