St. Michael’s is well-known throughout the diocese and around the city for offering amazing music to members and visitors alike! We offer not just one but four robust choirs. They all have a lot of fun singing together! To find out more about any of the English-language choirs, please contact Choir Director Brian Fairbanks or Music Director Hannah Brewer.
Our largest choir is the St. Michael’s Singers, which rehearses weekly and gloriously leads the congregational singing during the program year (September through May) for one or two services every Sunday. They also sing multiple services at Christmas and Holy Week as well as at several Choral Evensong services. An audition is not required to join the St. Michael’s Singers, but previous choral and/or sight-reading experience is helpful.
If you’re looking for a way to sing in a choir with less of a time commitment than the St. Michael’s Singers, consider joining the Saints & Singers Choir. There are many good reasons to do so, including meeting a new group of people, learning more about the liturgies, helping the congregation worship by leading the singing of hymns and learning new music. Saints & Singers typically rehearses and sings in worship generally once a month. You are welcome to participate as you are able, even if you have to miss some of the scheduled rehearsals or Sundays. You can even attend the rehearsal via Zoom! Rehearsals this year will be on Thursday evenings (the Thursday before the Sunday when they will sing) from 7:00 to 8:15 pm in the Choir Room downstairs.
All children in grades 3 and up are invited to sing with the St. Michael’s Choristers. Rehearsals are held on Sunday afternoons from 12:15 to 1:00 pm, right between the 11:00 am and 1:00 pm liturgies in the Choir Room downstairs. Rehearsals are conducted in English; however, we will sing in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Latin, Swahili, Yoruba, French, etc. Our goal is to prepare our young musicians to help lead liturgies at many of our liturgical expressions, from Sunday morning to Sunday afternoon, Choral Evensong and special liturgies at Christmas, Holy Week and others.
Finally, our group that sings and plays instruments to accompany the 1:00 pm Spanish-language service is called El Coro. They sing all year round and rehearse once a week on Thursdays. Contact the church office to be put in touch with that choir.
