“The Spirited Pen” Writing Group

An Invitation from SuEllen+, our curate:

I invite to join me and others for a five-week spirit-focused creative writing group. No writing experience is required. If you can write out a grocery list—you’re in. Pens and paper will be provided. All that you need to bring to the group is an open heart.

While I offered this writing group for many years in a clinical setting, it has been a dream of mine to make it available in a religious space where we have the opportunity to creatively explore meaning and spirituality and employ a scripture-based format. I admit, I am very excited to introduce this new format and to write our stories together at St. Michael & All Angels.

The Spirited Pen writing group will offer a relaxed setting to write stories that encourage a deeper look into our own spirituality. Participants will be invited to write in response to prompts and then to read their writing if they choose. There will be time for supportive discussion and fellowship. The topics for each week will include Creation of our Being, Lamentations and Sorrows, Teachings and Wisdom, Resilience in our Gifts and Hope in the Joyful Spark.

I am a certified facilitator through the Amherst Writers & Artists and as such employ their philosophy and methods to provide a safe and empowering environment to creatively explore thoughts and feelings through writing.

The Spirited Pen will meet for five weeks, beginning on Thursday, May 23, tentatively from 12:00-1:00 pm. We will meet in the Raphael room unless otherwise noted. Please email SuEllen for more information, to RSVP and if you would prefer a different time.
