| Some of this Sunday’s music was chosen in recognition of MLK Day on January 15. The choir’s offertory anthem is an arrangement of the African American spiritual Hush! Somebody’s callin’ my name, which employs a simple, rhythmic pattern to highlight the last two letters of each “hush.” In addition, the piano prelude is by Black composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor (pictured) from his 1905 collection of 24 Negro Melodies, Op. 59. The selection, Pilgrim’s Song, is a version of the American folk song Poor Wayfaring Stranger about a plaintive soul on the journey through life. |
