Soup Supper & Holden Evening Prayer

Our special Lenten musical offering this year is a prayer service held each Wednesday in March in the Chancel area, in place of our lay-led Evening Prayer which will resume in April. We will start each Wednesday evening in the Parish Hall with a simple soup-and-bread supper available from 5:30 to 6:00 pm on March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29, followed by Holden Evening Prayer at 6:15 pm in the church. This simple supper and sung prayer service will be a way to gather and reflect on a more intimate scale than on Sunday mornings. We will learn to sing the service together, with time for meditation, a quiet prelude from Hannah, and some Lenten readings.

Holden Evening Prayer is a vespers service written by Marty Haugen during the winter of 1985-1986 while living at Holden Village in the North Cascade Mountains of Washington state. The simple, sung service utilizes contemporary and inclusive language and includes incense, candlelight and time for meditation. All are welcome and encouraged to gather in community this Lenten season.
